Masks available!

In an effort to help “Flatten the Curve” we have been asked to wear face masks when out and about. Governor Polis says “Coloradans who leave their homes to go grocery shopping or take a walk around their neighborhood should now wear non-medical cloth face masks while they’re in public.”

Some of you may already have the masks that you need, but some of you may not. So, our dear Faith Sowers are making simple cloth masks and they are making them available to members of our congregation. They are FREE and a heartfelt gift to you! If you feel compelled to pay for them, then the Faith Sowers suggest a small thank you donation to CENTRALongmont.

We will have a team in place to deliver the masks to you. They will be available on a first come, first served basis. Some will have elastic to go over the ears and some will have ties that will adjust to all head sizes.

If you would like a mask, please contact Lee Smoot by email (lee@centralongmont.net) or phone (303-601-0764). Here’s the information we’ll need.

washing and drying fabric masks

What’s the best way to wash and dry a fabric face mask?

  •       Detergent - use those with bleach-like compounds or other active ingredients; they kill microbes more effectively than standard detergents.
  •       Machine washing is optimal; use the warmest water the fabric will tolerate. The temperature should be at least 140 degrees Fahrenheit (60 degrees Celsius).
  •       You can also disinfect masks by ironing or putting them in an oven for 20 minutes at about 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
  •       If hand washing is your only option, lather the masks with soap and scrub them for at least 20 seconds with warm to hot water.  Washing should be followed by hot air drying.
  •       Dry your mask on the highest possible heat the fabric will allow. Again, this will depend on what material was used to construct your mask.
  •       It is recommended to wash your masks daily when they are being used regularly.
